Bookniture Is A Book That Unfolds Into A Cardboard Stool That Can Support The Weight Of Two Men

When folded, the Bookniture looks like a big ledger. Except, it isn’t. Instead, it’s actually a stackable furniture constructed entirely from cardboard. Oh yeah, it can support a whopping 375 pounds.

That’s right, it’s a cardboard stool and desk weighing under four pounds that can support 375 pounds. Seriously, that’s enough to prop up two medium-sized grown men who, for some reason, need to sit on a tiny stool together. Or a grown man carrying a 200-pound baby elephant. Yes, it probably won’t be comfortable, but this darn thing sure can handle it.

While it folds into a book that measures 13 x 7 x 1.6 inches (h x w x d), the Bookniture actually expands when opened. Both the front and back cover are designed to attach when unfolded (they come with embedded magnets), revealing a cylinder-shaped structure that measures 14 inches in diameter. A honeycomb structure allows it to expand to 14 times the original volume, apart from packing the strength to support such a massive amount of weight. Construction is heavy-duty kraft paper, a tough and splash-resistant material, for the honeycomb structure, with the covers decked in a soft felt top.

Used alone, the Bookniture can function as a stool or a low side table for placement anywhere in the house. Stack two of them, however, and you’ve got a desk. Pile multiple units and you can have a standing table. You can even use another folded Bookniture as the tabletop (part of the reason why they covered it in felt).

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for Bookniture. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at $60.
