This Autonomous Desk Is A Fitness Aid, Virtual Assistant, And Home Automation Hub In One

Like other adjustable-height desks, the Autonomous Desk can be configured to accommodate sitting or standing postures on the fly. Unlike them, it hides a treasure trove of smarts that allow it to do so much more.

Not only can you change the desk height at will, the desk actually learns your habits. After a few days of use, it can start adjusting itself autonomously (if you allow it, of course) based on your preferred working postures at various times of the day. It can also sense whenever you are present, so the adjustments will only happen whenever you’re actually around.

The Autonomous Desk comes with buttons that let you change its height on the fly, along with additional controls that let you pre-program up to four different desk heights, all accessible with a tap. Even better, it comes with a Siri-like facility that lets you turn the desk into a virtual assistant, barking commands at it and having it respond back. The AI is pretty sophisticated, too, allowing you to use it to check your schedule, set reminders, query various information (stocks, weather, and more), and even perform actions (“Call me a cab”). Plus, you can use it to control various home automation devices using voice commands, including Nest, LIFX, Philips Hue, Lockitron, and more, as well as play music through the onboard speakers.

Construction is steel for the frame, with the top cut in either bamboo or MDF with wood veneer. Dimensions are 52 x 28 inches for the tabletop, with the height adjustable from 23.5 to 49 inches.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for Autonomous Desk. It’s surprisingly affordable, too, with pledges to reserve a full-featured unit starting at $699.
