Class Up The Garage Shop With Keiji Ashizawa’s Toolbox

While there’s no way I’ll trade in my Festool Systainers for Keiji Ashizawa’s Toolbox, I have to admit, it looks a hundred times more aesthetically pleasing. Heck, I’d have guessed it was some kind of decorative drawer system for make up and jewelry, rather than a utility box for handyman types. But that’s exactly what it’s supposed to be.

A SMP CoLab exclusive, it’s quite the fresh take on portable toolbox drawers, perfect for that woodworker who’s sick of everything in his garage workshop having to look like an industrial object. Whether you want to class up the shop, have something decorative for a change, or impress the lady neighbors when you come over to help fix their sink, this thing should get the job done.

Keiji Ashisawa’s Toolbox consists of a freestanding steel frame and four wooden drawers that can be accessed from either side. It comes with an integrated handle on the frame for easily moving around, letting you take it from the shop to the kitchen to the work site two blocks down. Granted, it’s a small rig that looks sized to hold hand tools, along with some small items, so it’s probably best for home use rather than out in the field. Construction is Paulownia wood, sourced from Nakamura Woodworking, and hand-forged steel, courtesy of Super Robot. Yes, hand-forged by Super Robot. Keep being awesome, Japan.
