If you separate your trash between biodegradables and recyclables like a growing number of people, then it’s likely that you have more than one bin in the kitchen. And Joseph Joseph thinks it’s not the best way to make use of your limited kitchen floor space. That’s why they made the Totem, a redesigned bin that aims to make sorting the kitchen garbage easier.

Described as an “intelligent waste” system, it’s a bin that features separate compartments for different kinds of trash. That way, you can have just one container for all the kitchen throwaways, whether it’s food waste, throwaway packaging, or recyclable bottles.

Available in 50- and 60-liter variants, the Joseph Joseph Totem comes with two primary compartments: a 36-liter chamber that you access from the top and a pull-out drawer at the bottom (14 liters on the 50-liter version and 24 liters on the 60-liter). A removable caddy, which sits on a platform in the top chamber and comes with its own cover, serves as a third compartment, where you can put in food waste that you may want to dispose of soon before it begins to smell. The top lid features an integrated odor filter to help manage unwanted smells that rise up every time the bin is opened, while the drawer features a middle divider for better organizing your recyclables.

Construction is powder-coated steel, with the top lid finished in a smudge-proof coating to keep fingerprints from dirtying it up. It comes with a wheeled base for easily moving around the kitchen.

Pricing for the Joseph Joseph Totem is set at £175 and £199 for the 50- and 60-liter versions, respectively.
